about

My name is Marty E. I used to play drums in bands like the Dirty Pearls, Sex Slaves, Union Dead, and Voodoo Love Mint, and fronted a band called Midnight Crisis (NYC).

I recently recorded my first solo effort, an EP consisting of 6 of my original songs, on which I sang, played guitar, and drums. The project was co-produced by my old friends Keith Killoren, and Jaime Hansen, who oversaw recording and mixing at his studio in Eau Claire, WI. Both of them helped me out with some additional guitars on a couple of songs, and my good friend Noah Smit played bass on all of them. Also, my friend Eric Bower mastered the tracks at Electric Nerve Music, outside of Philadephia. My girlfriend Virginia was also a tremendous help in providing the colorful artwork (and you can see more of her creations @lostinthewoodsmichigan).

The songs document my reflections on relocating to Michigan's Western Upper Peninsula after powering through 20 years of playing Rock n' Roll and socializing in New York's Lower Manhattan. The songs also mark my first time as a guitarist and sole-songwriter, since taking up the guitar during the dreaded COVID lockdown.

Stylistically, the project is a bit of a departure from my strictly Hard Rock past, while maintaining some elements of it, with heavy influences from The Replacements, Epic Soundtracks, The Waterboys, Peter Laughner, New Model Army, Neil Young, Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave, Big Star, Leonard Cohen, The Afghan Whigs, Snatches of Pink, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, James Hall, Lou Reed, The Jacobites, Gram Parsons, and countless others.
